I find rest periods boring!

I find rest periods boring!

Do you find it boring waiting between sets?

Do you find you have no more than 30 seconds rest between each set?

Well unfortunately there is going to be some downsides to this.

You will find it hard to progress and get stronger because you’re accumulating fatigue then not allowing enough time to recover for the next set.

This means that you’ll more than likely have to stay on the same weight or even go down as your reps will get harder and harder as the sets go on.

Now yes of course your sets should be getting harder as they go on as we’ve previously mentioned the RPE scale and working at a high intensity.

But by not allowing the time to recover and feel less fatigued you are leaving potential gains on the table.

Short rest periods don’t mean you will not make any progress at all, but they will definitely slow it down.

If you have very limited time in your days to train, then this might be the only way you can get your resistance training in.

But for the most part of you reading this you most definitely have the time to rest an extra minute per set.

You’re bored you say?

Just because its rest it doesn’t mean you have to do absolutely nothing.

You could walk around the gym for a minute.

You could do some mobility on areas you’re not training.

You could review the set if you filmed it.

Have a bloody thumb war with yourself if you want.

You get the point, it’s only 90 seconds. You can definitely kill time with something other than nothing.

If you want to sit there and do nothing though please do crack on you wise owls.

Me personally I sit there and ask myself what came first the egg or the chicken, 90 seconds usually passes by fast enough…….

Hopefully you get the point.

The more you rest = more recovery = the higher the potential to get out more reps/weight = more chances of getting absolutely massive/strong.

It’s a no brainer, right?
