Do I need my 5 a day?

This is something we all get told from being a child but always end up questioning, even into our adult lives.

What is a micronutrient?

Micronutrients are vitamins and minerals needed by the body in small amounts. However, their impact on the body is critical and a deficiency in them could end up in life threatening conditions.

Benefits of 5 a day

Studies show consuming your 5 a day of fruit and vegetables can result in;

Lower blood pressure

Reduce risk of heart disease & strokes

Prevent some forms of cancer

Improved digestion

A positive effect on blood sugars

These topics can all sound very scary but with such a simple change it can improve your life quality drastically, it’s a no brainer really!

What should I eat to get my 5 a day in?

Any form of fruit or veg, whether it be apples, pears, oranges, banana, broccoli, carrots, peppers, the list can go on and on.

Find fruits and veg you enjoy and start incorporating them into your daily meals and snacks.

There are so many different directions you can go with them; it almost becomes a fun little game to see if you can make anything new.

All whilst improving your health!

Portion sizes reference

80g of fresh, frozen, or canned fruit or vegetables = 1 portion

30g dried fruit = 1 portion
