"Is sleep actually that important?"

"Is sleep actually that important?"

Hell yes it is!

You’re always told you need 6-8 hours of sleep a night, but why?

For most of you reading this, as soon as you get out bed say, “I’m so tired, can’t wait to get back in bed and sleep tonight”.

But sleep is meant to provide you with energy, giving you plenty of brain fuel to help you focus, help productivity, help recovery and the list can go on with the benefits it gives you but why are you always tired?

This could be because you’re lacking in good quality sleep, whether it’s in and out of sleep, not sleeping at all, there’s absolutely tonnes of reasons why this could be the case….

Poor quality sleep is linked with the following:

  • Stress
  • Excessive phone use
  • Noise
  • Room temperature being too hot or cold
  • Caffeine intake
  • Children

These are the main causes linked with lack of sleep or sleep quality but it’s no good us listing these then leaving you with no direction of how to improve it…

How to improve your sleep quality:

  • Try and have a bedtime routine
  • Consistent bedtime
  • Keep bedroom as dark as possible
  • Avoid caffeine around 6-8 hours before you go to sleep
  • Turn TV and phones off around 30-60 minutes before bed
  • Increase activity levels throughout the day

These are some easy quick fixes you can make to your sleep which will improve your overall sleep quality and day to day life functionality.
