Are you hopping from programme to programme?

Are you hopping from programme to programme?

Do you always find yourself hopping from programme to programme?

Do you find yourself doing 5 sessions one week then 2 sessions another?

If you answered yes to the above questions, then there’s a good chance you have been spinning your wheels when it comes to your progress within your training. In order to see progress, you have to be adherent to the plan you set out.

Most people struggle with adherence because of these 2 reasons. The first one is because the plan you create is not REALISTIC, if you create a plan with an unrealistic time frame and it doesn’t fit your schedule week to week then you are setting yourself up for failure.

The second reason is because it’s not ENJOYABLE, you may be following a plan that ultimately, you’re not even going to enjoy. This usually comes down to exercise selection or training split.

Make it Realistic

So how do you make your training realistic?

As an example, lets imagine you are a single parent with 2 kids who works 40+ hours per week, designing a training plan where you train 5x per week with 2-hour training sessions is never going to fit into your schedule. Whereas if you set yourself a target of 3 training sessions per week lasting 45 minutes now things seem a little more realistic.

So, for you the reader what you need to do is ask yourself the following questions…

What do I want to achieve out of my training in the next 6-12 months?

How many days a week can I realistically fit into my schedule?

What barriers do I face when it comes to training?

There are plenty more questions you can ask yourself, but you get the idea.

Once you have answered all of these questions you now have a clearer understanding of what you want to do in your training, why you want to do it and how you’re going to do it.

Make it Enjoyable

This is something that can be quite overlooked by a lot of people as they feel the need to follow a way of training or certain exercises because they’ve been told this is the ‘best’ or ‘most optimal’.

Yes, using machines for certain exercises may be more optimal but do you enjoy using machines or enjoy the feeling you have after using them? If the answer is no then don’t feel like you have to do it because a TikTok bro/gal said so.

What you actually need to do is ask yourself the following things.

What style of training do I enjoy the most?

What exercises do I enjoy doing?

What exercises do I not enjoy doing?

You want to be relishing every session you to, not dread it.

Make sure the plan you put together is something you are going to enjoy and look forward to each week.

The more you enjoy the programme, the more consistent you will be, the more consistency you have the more success you will have.

Task

Now that you have the tools and understanding of how to adhere to your training in the long run there is something, I would like you to do.

I want you to go off and create yourself a training programme using the questions I got you to ask yourself above.

There is no right or wrong with this but hopefully it allows you to create something that you can follow for the foreseeable and actually see some results from.
